This position is TEMPORARY for the 2018/2019 School Year. 

 

This position is 6.75 hours per day.

 

The SPED Instructional Assistant provides overall assistance in the classroom to support the teacher and/or work with an assigned student in classroom and/or one-to-one settings. This individual is responsible for providing additional structure, supervision, and instruction to assist the teacher in achieving the goals and objectives of the student's Individual Education Program (IEP). The SPED Instructional Assistant works independently within the guidelines and direction of the supervising teacher providing educational support and behavior management; documents student progress; and serves as an escort to students during school or program activities. Our team designs a unique schedule for each of our Autistic students based on his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP).

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Must be Highly Qualified. (See Below)
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bilingual strongly preferred
  • Special Education experience/high needs student experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Autistic students and their behaviors preferred
  • Ability to motivate students
  • Team player attitude, able to take direction and work cooperatively with certified staff
  • Flexible attitude/willingness to work with all student ability levels
  • Ability to use current technology & willingness to learn specially designed programs
  • Read, understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate in a positive manner
  • Fingerprinting and Criminal History Check at employee’s expense is Required once hired- employment is contingent upon Fingerprinting and Criminal History results.

 

To be “Highly Qualified”, requires a high school diploma or the equivalent, and one of the following:

  • An Associate's degree
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education - 72 credit hours
  • Passed the District Assessment for educational assistants in the areas of reading, writing, math and  pedagogy
